The founder of the dynasty - Academician Nikolai Markovich Serhiienko gained worldwide fame thanks to research in optics and physiology of vision, founded and raised a school of domestic microsurgeons, working at the Kiev Eye Microsurgery Center. Andrei Nikolaevich, also a native of this school, made an invaluable contribution to domestic medicine with work in the field of treatment of retinal diseases.
